The landscape is unforgiving, as the temperatures are extremely low. Snow-covered lakes are not always frozen solid, and the ice cold water is deadly. Perhaps worst of all--at least from Buck's perspective--Spitz turns out to be a fierce rival. Buck must face not only the elements but another capable competitor.
