Why do you think story tellers give Grendel a mother and how does their relationship affect the message of the poem?

anything helps :)

In my opinion, Grendel is given a mother in order to highlight his humanity. Grendel is cursed, and he is a monster among men, but he is also a part of a family..... he has the capacity to love and be loved.
