Certainly exploring the reality of the pain behind the stories of black women during this era can be healing. The fact that these wee real human beings with hopes, dreams, pain and pleasures reminds us of the incredible stresses they withstood. Books and movies like "The Colour Purple" brought the plight of black women in history to the masses. Characters in Beloved and Sofia (Oprah Winfrey) in the Colour Purple bring a face to the enormous injustices that took place.
