4a. What does Atwood really think about Americans and Candians? Please cite evidence from the essay to support your opinion.
It's difficult to know exactly how "tongue and cheek" Atwood is being here. Generally she paints Canadians as the neighbours with "neat little bungalows" and Americans the as the neighbours with "sprawly mansions with the bad-taste statues". Americans like Canadians well enough unless we step on its big toe or something. In the end America is like a garish big brother who will protect his little brother as long as the relationship is on his terms.
