It shows that Napoleon is no different, or perhaps never was different, that his human oppressors. Arguing over gambling shows Napoleon in all his terrifying greed with violent abandon. The scene in the farmhouse brings Napoleon's ugliness to light where it was cloaked beneath propaganda before.
