How do the animals arrange themselves as they gather to hear Major? What might this arrangement say about future meetings or events?

The pigs are at the front. This  foreshadowing their status as superior animals later on in the story. The other animals are pushing each other for space. This foreshadows the their role as the "unwashed masses" who must struggle to merely survive while the pigs enjoy power and a better life.
