All Quiet on the Western Front

When the German school master was trying to motivate his students to enlist in the army, did he say anything that would be different from what would be said by a recruiter for the Allied Armies talking to young men in France, Britain or the U.S.?

Does what he said tell you anything about patriotism?

At the time period, I don't think the propaganda would have been much different. Stories about nationalism, patriotism, and the evil enemy would have been the norm for both sides of the conflict.
