As the play progresses, we as readers, come to understand that the play isn't just about Keller's sons..... it isn't merely about Chris' future or Larry's death. The play, and its title, refer directly to the many young soldiers who died as a result of a bad decision..... an impetuous decision based upon earnings rather than lives. The guilt Joe carries is for all of the sons..... they "all" became his sons.
