A Long Way Gone

What is the significance of Beah’s name-giving ceremony? Why does he share that story at this point in the book?

Beah remebers his naming ceremony, and although he was too young at the time to actually remember the event, he has a vivid account of the ceremony from his grandmother. Beah remembers his grandmother’s smile at the end of the story, after which he falls asleep. I think that Beah is trying to hang on to who he is or rather who he used to be. With his loved ones gone or dead, he tries to reflect to remember his own identity.
