What are some possible reasons Dickens chose to have the Spirit of the Future share some features with the Grim Reaper?

I think that Dickens uses some effective foreshadowing should Scrooge not mend his ways. The dark spirit is a final ominous warning to Scrooge. The spirit does not talk. Any promises Scrooge makes ring hollow until he shows his change in action and deed.
