All books in 1984's dystopian society are controlled by the state or Inner Party. Books previous to revolution are destroyed and history is literally re-written in order to favor Big Brother and the State. The Party wants to control information: they discourage private thought or interpretation. The Party tells people what to think and is able to control any and all information including books.
