Young Goodman Brown and Other Hawthorne Short Stories

What does Hawthorne gain by including the names of actual persons (Goody Cloyse, Goody Cory, Deacon Gookin, Martha Carrier) and places (Salem Village, Boston, Old South Church)?

I am having trouble finding the the answer to this question. I dont know what hawthorne gains and I was wanting help.

By inclusing the names of actual historical figures, Hawthorne lends the story a sense of reality.
