It begins as one cruelly manipulated by Estella. Her beauty and social poise attract Pip immediately and, egged on by Miss Havisham, she uses this to make sure he falls in love with her. The ultimate goal is to "break his heart." And yet a certain intimacy grows between them, one that ultimately makes her regret how she treats him, beg forgiveness, and possibly end up together (depending on which ending you use). Pip remains in love with her and personifies her as the sum of all his goals in life.
