What is your opinion of Linton Heathcliff as a person? Do you find him a sympathetic character?
Many students probably find Linton unsympathetic, since he is so whiny and demanding, and ends up being so cruel to Cathy. However, other students may understand him as someone who was doted upon by his mother until he was twelve, suffered a devastating loss, and was then alternately manipulated and abused by his father for five years. He has little strength of character or body, but both would have been difficult to come by.
