Wit Imagery

Into the Light

At the end of the play, we see Vivian take off both of her robes and reach towards the light. The imagery shows her being freed of the burdens of life and set free into eternity.

Breaking the Wall

Vivian addresses the audience directly in the opening scene. By breaking the fourth wall, the imagery shows us that Vivian is a character who has been in control in her life, and will be in control for the next 80 pages as she is the narrator of this play.

Little Girl

During a flashback scene with her father, Vivian goes from being a woman on her death bed to a little girl reading a book with her dad. The imagery shows us how one thinks of moments in their life during the final days, moments that matter far more than they could have expected when they happened.

DNR

Jason is seen screaming for the medical team to resuscitate Vivian, even though she is DNR; however, Susie is trying to stop the team from reviving her. The scene shows the chaos and the fight between the medical field seeking its desired research and its lack of humanity for the person who has gone through the worst moments in there life before death.
