Why is Henry so important?

Henry is the other sled driver, who is rescued by other men just as the wolves are closing in on him. Henry is very like his partner, Bill, but he is sadi to be a little more desperate and luckier. Henry is desperate enough to become part of the fire, he literally jumps into it, to ward off the wolves.
