Why do you suppose that White Fang has such a hard time fighting the bulldog?

White Fang has never seen a bull-dog before, and he can't finish the fight because of the bull-dog's build.

But White Fang could not get at the soft underside of the throat. The bull-dog stood too short, while its massive jaws were an added protection.
