Why did White Fangkill the dogs at the crossroads?

The dogs at the crossroads had always taunted White Fang. White Fang, however, had been warned not to fight back by his owners. One day the owners of the dogs released them onto White Fang. White fang got the go ahead to protect himself from his own owner. White Fang killed the dogs.
