Henry is left alone because something happened to bill. What happened?

There is an aggressive wolf pack. Bill decides to shoot the she-wolf, but the pack devours him thus Henry is left alone.

Bill was about to shot the she-wolf, but before he got a chance the pack jumped on him. They killed him which left Henry alone on his journey.
