Why does the author, Wilson Rawls, repeatedly use the phrase "side-y-side" to describe the dogs and their relationship to each other's and Billy?

Please help me and fast thanks! "Side-by-side"********** is what I meant thanks agian!😊

 Billy becomes very close with his dogs. As the story unfolds, they become inseparable hence the repeated phrase "side-y-side" or "side by side".  Â
