How do the curiosity and stubornness typical of raccoons enable Billy to trap one

The trap piqued the coons with something shiny, after which, the raccoon's stubbornness took over refusing to the the shiny article go. In the end, the raccoon's paw gets stuck. Thus, it's the curiosity and stubbornness of the raccoons that enables Billy to trap one.
