An allegory is both literal and symbolic. In Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?, the allegory alludes to the story of the Garden of Eden, as Connie faces temptation and loss of innocence. We have a young, innocent girl (think Eve), tempted by Arnold Friend, who is anything but a friend (think devil).
