Walden

What does Thoreau mean when he says that "we must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake...by an infinite expectation of the dawn"?

Thoreau felt that most people have stopped moving with the rhythms of nature. They create an artificial world and are never truly awake. People must study philosophy and ideas to truly explore the world, otherwise they merely sleep through life never knowing what it means to be truly alive.
