is waiting for lefty pure propaganda?
Odets was very aware of the propaganda aspect of his work, and as a very left-leaning member of the Group Theater he wanted to use theater to affect social change. However, the success of the play is clearly tied to the Great Depression, and it is based on a taxi driver strike. Thus you can also argue that it represents the general sentiment of the times.
