Estragon repeats “Nothing to be done.” Why?

Estragen laments that they are metaphorically tied: they are tied to waiting for Godot. They do not even try to resist because they know that "there is nothing to be done" but wait. THey sit on an alien landscape knowing that waiting is there purpose for being there.
