Uncle Tom's Cabin

Why do you think the author chose to show uncle tom with kind masters?

They both treat him like family.

This is an interesting question. Uncle Tom is the model slave. He exists as almost a caricature of what a good slave might look and act like from a white perspective, Consequently we get a similar view of what a "good" master might act like thus providing legitimacy to the whole slave culture of the time.
