Uncle Tom's Cabin

There are several references to the so-called Christian support of slavery. Compare and contrast the so-called Christians to the characters who live truly Christ-likes lives.

(Example: The Quakers who help all mankind, whether the recipient is deserving or not)

There certainly is a difference between the two. The American South was largely if not totally heavily Christian. In the Bible there are parts that allude to owning slaves as long as they are foreigners. I suppose a strict interpretation of this might condone the act of slavery even though it is preached against by Jesus himself. The Quakers were unique in the American South because of their strict opposition to any form of violence and humiliation which, of course, included slavery. Quakers were not into building huge wealth producing farms, especially at the expense of innocent souls.
