In chapter 29 of the book Uncle Tom's Cabin how does Stowe explain the grief slaves feel when a kind master dies?

The slaves know little else than the life they lead. They know the cruelty of other masters so when a kind master dies, they feel sad. This master has taken good care of them and was not cruel so they mourn. Also this means they will be sold off to probably worse circumstances.
