Uncle Tom's Cabin reminds me of a few books I have read, both fiction and no-fiction, following similar themes. The first one that comes to mind is the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. It is an account of Douglass's long road from slavery to emancipation. Themes of black identity, struggle, complacency (by both whites and some blacks) and courage are shared. I also think of Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs. It is just as shocking, defining, and disturbing as any book on this subject.
