Required labor for the slaves included ploughing, planting, picking cotton, gathering the corn, pulling and burning stalks, drawing and cutting wood, pressing cotton, and the fattening and killing of hogs. Note, these examples are the labor required of outdoor slaves.

Ploughing, planting, picking cotton, gathering the corn, and pulling and burning stalks, occupies the whole of the four seasons of the year. Drawing and cutting wood, pressing cotton, fattening and killing hogs, are but incidental labors.
