The 60's shaped Morrie's character and influenced his teaching. He was anti-war, anti-establishment. Rather than allow his students to be drafted, he gave them all A's. He supported his black students and rode the bus with them to Washington during the Civil Rights movement. He worked for peace in a tumultuous time when universities experienced an outpouring of negativity. Mitch would tease Morrie, and Morrie would respond that the 60's weren't as bad as the times we live in today.
