Tristram Shandy

Tristram Shandy begins with a reference to sex and ends with another such reference. Is there any importance to this, or is it just the author's bawdiness?

I don't think there is a specific reason for the allusions to sex other than their shock value. The author enjoyed the bawdy references that served to shock his audience.
