What is your first immpression of Long John Silver from the squire's letter?

I've already read this novel countless times, so I'll have to guess at that first reaction so long ago.......... like the squire, I'd probably have felt they were lucky to him too. Every experienced sailor would be an important addition, and even with one leg, Silver just wants to cook. I say, "put him to work."
