Treasure Island

Toward the end of Treasure Island, Long John Silver says that Jim Hawkins is “more of a man” than any of the mutineers. Why does he say this? Then cite other examples from the text showing Jim’s courageous behavior.

I think that this speaks to the idea that Jim follows his own conscience. He stands up for what he thinks is right even in the face of danger. In Chapter 28, Jim tells Silver, "I no more fear you than I fear a fly." . I think that this is also part of Silver's passive/aggressive pattern of behaviour. He uses manipulation to get favour of people.
