Q1: Strong leadership is one of the central ideas of the novel; that how a good leader can save his team and achieve common goal. Going through the timeline, it is observed that both Captain Smollett and Long John Silver were leaders and led their teams of men. How do their leadership abilities differ from one another? What do their style suggest about their characters?

Smollett leads with respect and firm guidance. He is willing to put himself in danger for his men, and his main goal is to effectively conclude his voyage.

Silver leads the pirates with respect, but he also leads them by using fear tactics. Where Smollett is honest, Silver will lie and manipulate his man to gain his own individual goal. Where Smollett wishes to protect his men.... Silver sees his men as expendable.
