"short and sweet"- The Captain is alluding to his reasons for not liking the crew. He means that his reasons will be clear and understandable. He is not referring to a small piece of candy.

"treasure is ticklish work"- he is meaning that hunting treasure is never straight forward.

"the secret has been told to the parrot"- Even the squire thinks he means Silver's parrot but the Captain's real meaning is, "It's a way of speaking," said the captain. "Blabbed, I mean. It's my belief neither of you gentlemen know what you are about, but I'll tell you my way of it-- life or death, and a close run."
