The baby birds that fall out of the nest remind Cole of the circle of life. Although he is dying himself, he realizes that he can be an agent for good or for bad. He can help the baby birds or let them die. The Spirit Bear represents Cole's own spirit. Like the Spirit Bear, it is Cole's own rage and selfishness that is destroying him.
