It is difficult to say what may have helped Cole would help Peter. Certainly Cole learned how to release his anger on the island but it was a long and arduous process, he had to return a second time after almost being killed the first. Still, Peter needs something besides punishing Cole to heal his wound. Self-discovery and forgiveness, in some form, is what Peter needs.
