I think that by this point in the story, Cole is actually sincere. Cole has ceased his life of manipulating others and lying to himself. He performs the dance as an act of submission and catharsis. His motives for doing the dance have nothing to do with excuses or power over others. He dances to release his anger and to begin to atone for his sins.
