Darkness of the house(flood)?

Are you asking what happens? Basically darkness floods the house. Furniture and people seem to disappear into darkness: the only sense of movements is the wind sliding in from the outside. It is only this air that touches parts of the house. Carmichael blows out his candle and retires for bed.
