    Kind of Activity:

    Group Work

    Objective:

    Students will be able to summarize important moments in a novel focused more on internal characterization than external plot.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.1, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.10

    Structure:

    To the Lighthouse is driven more by internal characterization than external plot. As such, it can be hard for students to understand what is going on and recognize important moments as easily as with other novels. The stream of consciousness technique certainly doesn't help students with that. This activity will help students ease into the novel and get used to Woolf's writing.
