To Kill a Mockingbird

Why is it a sin to “kill” Boo Radley? In what ways has the town already “killed” him? Integrate textual references.

Atticus had given Jem and Scout air rifles but warns them not to kill a mockingbird because they only try to do good in the world. This theme of innocence and goodness extends to characters like Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. The town has already "killed" Boo Radley by turning him into a ghost story and views as a freak of nature. Boo exists in the shadows and darkness of the town, a solitary figure too wounded to find comfort. Even after saving Jem and Scout, Boo must remain in the shadows because all the attention would surely cause him even more damage.
