Dill believes that lighting a match in order to get the turtle to come out will hurt him.... Jem seems to believe that turtles can't feel.
"How do you know a match don't hurt him?" asks Dill.
"Turtles can't feel, stupid," replies Jem.
"Were you ever a turtle, huh?" rejoins Dill.
