Why, in Atticus's view, was Mrs. Dubose "a great lady"??

Atticus saw Mrs. Dubose as courageous. She was trying to die without morphine even thoufg she was an addict. Atticus sees a lady who had a difficult life trying to die with a shred of dignity.
