To Kill a Mockingbird

Why does Boo Radley never leave his home? Why did the kids (Jem, Scout, Dill) try and write him a note and then pass it onto his open window? What does this signify? Please use quotes and include page numbers!!!!!!!! :)

Suffice to say that Boo Radley is the source of childish myth to Scout and Jem. He is the stuff of ghost stories and curiousity. Scout and Jem want to lure the recluse out of his house for their own entertainment. This motif can be scene throughout the early chapters of this novel.
