Why do you think the prosecutor emphasized Tom Robinson’s response, “you felt sorry for her, you felt sorry for her?”

The prosecutor repeated this because it was the worst thing Tom could have said. A black man feeling sorry for a white girl was unheard of. No matter her status or predicament...... he should never have put himself in a position where people thought he saw himself as better.
