Why did the children feel so isolated and upset when Atticus asked them to listen to Aunt Alexadria's explainations of the significane of being a Finch?

Scout and Jem are frightened that Aunt Alexandra has influenced their father, and that he will never be the same. They want Atticus to be Atticus.
