why did the authors used this.. what is the author purpose?

what do you mean abou this: This sentence uses proper syntax for Calpurnia's character.

"Baby," said Calpurnia, "I just can't help it if Mister Jem's growin' up. He's gonna want to be off to himself a lot now, doin' whatever boys do, so you just come right on in the kitchen when you feel lonesome…." (ch 12)

why did the authors used this.. what is the author purpose?

Calpurnia is trying to comfort Scout. Jem is growing up and is not wanting to play their old games. Calpurnia gently tries to explain this to Scout. This quote shows a gentler side to Calpurnia than we have seen before.
