Aunt Alexandra was very proud of her heritage and expected Scout and Jem to acquire that same pride. Thus, she was very tough on the children and consistently reminded them of their family name. In addition, she regularly took Scout to tssk for her unladylike behavior and reminded Atticus that he could not supply her with the feminine influence she needed.
