Why did Atticus say it " wasn't time to worry yet"?

Atticus was telling Jem that although the verdict hadn't gone their way, they weren't finished fighting for Tom yet.

“It’s not time to worry yet,” Atticus reassured him, as we went to the diningroom. “We’re not through yet. There’ll be an appeal, you can count on that."
